SERGIO BELOTTI · CHOOSING YOUR BELT

How to choose a belt as a gift for a colleague

A belt can be an appropriate workplace gift when you know the recipient’s preferences and it suits your team’s customs. Consider the budget, sizing and presentation without making the choice intrusive.

Decide whether a personal accessory is appropriate

Consider your working relationship and the way your team usually celebrates. If you do not know the colleague’s taste, first check whether a belt would be useful. Job title tells you neither the size nor the appropriate spending level. Avoid selecting an expensive or conspicuously status-focused accessory solely because the recipient is a manager.

Agree how a team gift will work

Set a comfortable budget and make contributions voluntary before choosing a model. One person can check preferences and place the order. A group gift does not require discussing the colleague’s measurements in a team chat. Ask privately if sizing is unknown, or invite the recipient to choose within the agreed budget.

Understated does not have to mean black

Use the colleague’s everyday work clothes as a reference. Black leather may suit black shoes; brown may fit warmer tones. Actual preference matters more than a universal colour rule. Check width against trouser loops, and avoid a prominent buckle unless you know it will be welcome. Both classic and automatic fastenings can work with office clothing.

Ask about fit without making it awkward

Ask for the full strap length of a comfortable belt, excluding the buckle, and its width. This is not a request for body measurements. Do not estimate size from appearance or borrow another colleague’s size. If no reliable measurement is available, choose together: a tactful question is easier than dealing with a belt that does not fit.

Keep the presentation considered and simple

Choose the wooden gift box and sign the greeting card from the team if appropriate. Check colour, length and contents before the celebration. Product-page links lead to available marketplaces, where you can confirm the final cost and delivery. The person ordering should retain the order details in case questions arise after fitting. Do not alter the belt before giving it.
