SERGIO BELOTTI · CHOOSING YOUR BELT

How to choose a belt as a gift for your brother

Knowing your brother well does not mean sharing his taste in clothes. Choose a belt for his jeans, work wardrobe or everyday outfits, with room for his own preferences.

Choose for his current wardrobe

Start with what your brother wears now, not what he wore several years ago. His work, habits and favourite clothes may have changed. For jeans, compare his everyday belt’s width and buckle. If he has recently started dressing more formally, ask whether he needs a separate belt for tailored trousers. Being close makes it easier to ask; it does not supply the answer.

Offer two clear directions

Rather than sending ten similar models, compare two meaningful options, such as a classic prong buckle and an automatic one. Ask whether fastening, colour or width matters most. To preserve the surprise, discuss preferences without showing the exact item. You can still make the final choice while avoiding a mechanism he already knows he dislikes.

Do not infer the length from build

Brothers of similar height may wear trousers at different positions. Measure the full leather strap of a belt that fits him, from the buckle attachment to the tip, excluding the buckle itself. Compare it with the website sizes and size chart. Do not deliberately buy an excessively long belt on the assumption it can be cut down: first confirm the attachment and whether shortening is supported.

Compare details for jeans and tailored trousers

With denim, buckle shape and leather texture can be an accent. With tailored trousers, check whether the buckle looks proportionate and the strap fits the loops. These are not rigid categories: the actual clothes matter. Compare width, fastening and shade in the product cards below, rather than relying on a broad description such as “casual belt”.

Make a practical gift personal

A wooden gift box and greeting card provide the presentation. A brief message that means something to the two of you adds a personal touch; leave the first fitting to your brother. Confirm the exact size and gift packaging on the marketplace before paying. For a family group present, have one person check the complete order rather than relying on several assumptions about sizing.
